FAQ - Frequently asked questions and answers about colocation & server housing from q.beyond

Colocation means you operate your own hardware in a professional data center. You retain control over your systems and data; we provide the infrastructure and security.

Colocation is worthwhile for companies that want to keep their hardware but do not want to build or continue operating their own data center.

Details:

  • Increased reliability and modern environment
  • Particularly suitable for situations with specific compliance or hardware requirements, or lack of space

You rent a defined rack or footprint including power, cooling, security, and network connection. We also offer optional additional services such as remote/smart hands, monitoring, and backup.

Details:

  • 19" racks with 47 rack units, power densities of 3–15 kW (more on request)
  • Redundant power supply, air conditioning, access control
  • Various network and carrier options, cross-connects, cloud connectivity

Billing is usually done as a combination of a fixed power commitment (kW) and consumption-based billing (kWh). Your electricity consumption is shown transparently.

Details:

  • Billing is based on the amount of kW of power provided plus kWh consumption, starting from the first kWh
  • Detailed breakdown in invoices and reports

Access is strictly regulated and secured at multiple levels. Our data center is certified according to recognized standards such as TSI, ISO 27001 and EN 50600.

Details:

  • Multi-stage access control (ID card + PIN), video surveillance, logging
  • Enclosed racks, individual cages or enclosed areas are possible
  • Test reports (e.g. ISAE) available for audits
  • Support with regulatory requirements (e.g. BaFin, DORA)

With colocation, you operate your own hardware in the data center. With managed hosting, the provider supplies the hardware, while in the public cloud, you use exclusively virtual resources.

Details:

  • Colocation: Full control, your own hardware, professional environment
  • Managed hosting: Hardware belongs to the provider, use of defined platforms
  • Public Cloud: No own hardware required, maximum flexibility, less hardware control
  • Hybrid strategies are possible

We plan the move together with you – from logistics and maintenance windows to fallback scenarios – and provide on-site technical support.

Details:
• Inventory and target architecture
• Timeline and schedule, often relocation on weekends or at night
• Support with cabling, racking, and testing
• Optional: Parallel operation, fallback and rollback scenarios

Our technicians perform simple tasks on your hardware 24/7 (remotely/smart hands), such as restarts or component replacements.

Details:
• Typical services: Server restart, cable reconnection, media insertion, taking photos
• Billing based on time spent
• Response times and availability are regulated in the service level agreement

We guarantee high availability for power and network, based on redundant architecture and clear SLAs.

Details:
• Redundant power paths, UPS systems, emergency power generators
• Coordinated maintenance windows with advance notice
• Defined response and troubleshooting times in case of faults

We will provide you with all necessary documents, evidence and protocols and are available to answer any questions from your auditors.

Details:
• Certificates, test reports and technical descriptions
• Access and event logs for defined periods
• Support with due diligence visits and site audits

The costs depend on rack space, power consumption, redundancy, power density, and desired additional services. We would be happy to prepare a customized offer for you.

Details:
• Number of racks and location
• Booked kW capacity and expected kWh consumption
• Redundancy, availability, and security requirements
• Additional services such as remote hands, monitoring, backup, or network services
