The Digital Product Passport is being introduced gradually and is changing the requirements for your product data.

The Digital Product Passport, a key component of the European circular economy, will gradually become mandatory for defined product groups. This will change the requirements for product data, processes, and responsibilities – often faster than companies can prepare their data and system landscapes.

Depending on the product group, manufacturers, importers, and retailers are among those affected. Those who start too late risk delays, additional costs, and competitive disadvantages.

Those who think about data, processes and architecture in a DPP-ready way early on remain capable of acting and at the same time create a robust product data basis for further regulatory and business requirements and secure market advantages.

You know you need to go retail . But you don't know where to start?

The DPP is not just a software project. It combines regulatory requirements with data management, processes, and system integration. DPP-relevant data is currently often scattered across ERP, PLM, or PIM systems, in Excel files, or with suppliers – sometimes incomplete or not machine-readable.

A structured inventory shows what foundations are already in place and where reliable data chains still need to be built.

At the same time, the DPP is a cross-cutting issue spanning many departments: management, IT and data, product compliance, supply chain, production, ESG, and quality. Without clear governance and ownership, the initiative will fizzle out.

Finding the starting point alone costs many companies valuable time — this is exactly where we come in.

DPP Foundation Workshop: Your structured introduction to the Digital Product Passport

In a compact one-day workshop, your relevant departments will collaborate from the outset. We will assess Organisation, processes, systems, and data infrastructure, and answer the key question: How DPP-ready is your company – and which steps should be prioritised now?

Who is this workshop suitable for?

For companies that manufacture, import, or distribute physical products and need to clarify how well their product data, systems, processes, and responsibilities are prepared for the Product Data Process (DPP).
This workshop is particularly relevant when multiple departments are involved, data is distributed, or a shared DPP target vision does not yet exist.

We will assess four key success factors with you:

DPP expertise

How clearly are regulatory requirements, roles, deadlines, and affected product groups defined within your organisation? Together, we'll examine how reliably the relevant data requirements can be derived from ESPR, delegated acts, and product group-specific regulations.
This will help you identify where a solid foundation already exists and where further knowledge development is needed.

Data basis and data organisation

How robust is your existing data foundation? We examine systems, data sources, and responsibilities, as well as the alignment between product groups, regulatory requirements, data structures, and supply chain information.
The results show where you can build on existing foundations and where further integration and structuring measures are needed.

System capability

What can ERP, PLM, PIM, and related systems do today? We analyze where product data originates, how it flows between systems, and where media breaks or manual rework interrupt the data chain.
We also examine whether unique product identifiers, versioning, and the provision of DPP data via a suitable data carrier are fundamentally supported.

Organisational anchoring

How clearly are roles, processes, governance, approval pathways, and capacities defined for DPP implementation? We are also examining how the initiative can be integrated with existing projects related to PPWR, EUDR, CSRD, or the Battery Regulation.
This will reveal whether the organisational foundation is sound or where further action is needed.

You will leave the workshop with a reliable assessment of your DPP readiness and a clear prioritisation of the next steps.

Why q.beyond?

Regulatory affairs, data, systems and implementation from a single source

The Digital Product Passport combines regulatory requirements with complex data and system issues. That's why our experienced ESG and data experts work together on your DPP readiness from the very beginning.

We combine expertise in regulatory requirements with experience in data governance, data integration, security, and the operation of complex IT landscapes. We provide technology- and vendor-independent consulting and develop a solution tailored to your Organisation , your products, and your existing system landscape.

Upon request, we will continue to support you based on the prioritised roadmap — from in-depth data and requirements analyses to integration design and implementation, as well as security, business intelligence and secure operation in German data centers.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Digital Product Passport provides product-related information in a structured and machine-readable format. The specific data it must contain depends on the product group and applicable regulations. Access is granted via a unique product identifier and a data carrier attached to the product, its packaging, or in the accompanying documentation.

The requirements will be introduced gradually and on a product group-specific basis. Whether and when your company is affected depends, among other things, on the relevant product regulations, your role in the value chain, and the respective transition periods. In the workshop, we will categorize your product groups and show you which preparations are advisable now.

Depending on the product portfolio, regulations such as the EU Battery Directive, the Construction Products Regulation, the Packaging Regulation, the Detergents Regulation, the Critical Raw Materials Act, the End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation, or the EU Deforestation Regulation may be relevant.
Processing these separately results in parallel data structures. Considering them together creates a viable data strategy.

Beyond regulatory compliance, a consistent product database can improve internal processes, enable digital product information, and relieve the burden on after-sales service through more easily accessible self-service information.
The realistic added value depends on the product, business model, and data maturity.

The workshop provides a structured introduction to your DPP journey. Depending on the outcome, this may be followed by in-depth requirements and data analysis, integration design, implementation, or managed services.

This is precisely when it becomes particularly useful. These projects access overlapping product and supply chain data. In the workshop, we specifically focus on what you can reuse multiple times, so you don't create parallel data environments.

That depends on the scope, format, and participants. In a free consultation, we'll clarify your situation and then send you a specific offer.

Experience shows that the workshop is only effective if decision-makers and specialist departments are present together. This means:

  • Management and C-level executives regarding ambition level and investment framework,
  • IT management for system capability and architecture, compliance and security for governance,
  • This includes the specialist areas of product management, purchasing, quality, logistics, and sustainability.
We will advise you on the target group during a consultation.

Not much. In a no-obligation expert call, we'll clarify which documents are helpful, such as an overview of your system landscape or a product range structure. If none of this is available in a prepared format, we'll work with what's already there in the workshop.

No. The DPP Foundation Workshop is a structured assessment. You will receive a maturity profile and a roadmap, not a certificate or test result.

No. We classify the requirements from a technical perspective and derive actionable insights for data, systems, and Organisation . A legally binding interpretation is part of our legal advice. Responsibility for your compliance remains with you.

No. We are coming to the workshop independent of technology and manufacturer. Whether a platform makes sense, and which one, is a question for after the roadmap is finalized.

Find out now how DPP-ready your company is.

In a no-obligation expert call, we will discuss your current situation, the product groups affected, and the ideal participants for the DPP Foundation workshop.
Based on your initial situation and the relevant key data, we will then create a customized workshop offer for you.
