QSC takes Tele2 customer connections into the cloud

Cologne, 24 June 2015. In operating its DSL customer connections, the Düsseldorf-based telecommunications provider Tele2 will in future be relying on a cloud-based softswitch solution offered by QSC. This eliminates the need for proprietary hardware components and thus allows the number of connections to be flexibly managed and rapidly adjusted in line with requirements.

The “Class 5 Hosted Softswitch” is an upstream technical service for network operators enabling them to operate telephony services via DSL customer connections. This cloud-based managed VoIP solution based on the all-IP network offered by QSC AG enables carriers such as Tele2 to avoid investments in costly server hardware and thus to react highly efficiently to any changes. Not only that, unlike traditional softswitch solutions, authentication is performed no longer via the customer’s call number, but rather via an SIP-based user account.

In technical terms, this is made possible by the “Cospace” communications technology, a service based on the Solucon cloud platform internally developed and operated in Germany by QSC’s subsidiary Q-loud GmbH. Solucon facilitates the real-time collection, storage and processing of large volumes of data. The platform draws on the manifold communication routes offered by the state-of-the-art all-IP network at QSC AG to communicate with other appliances and people via all possible channels.

“QSC’s solution offers us just that flexibility we need to enable our end customers to telephone easily and reliably via their Tele2 connections. What’s more, the cloud-based platform is highly scalable and rapidly adaptable to changing market conditions”, comments Ulrich Krause, Chief Technology and IT Officer (CTIO) at Tele2, with regard to the decision. “We have worked together with QSC, a reliable partner with a superb command of cloud and all-IP topics, in the past already.”
