The DMS Group is one of the largest independent service providers in the utilities sector and has a total of 7 locations throughout Germany. Digitalisation , putting customers first, and reducing costs: these are the core themes of the DMS Group. DMS sees itself as a reliable and innovative service provider.
The group consists of 4 individual companies: DMS Energy: the operational process and dialogue unit; PMD Experts: the process consultants of the DMS Group; DMS Academy: the training institute of the DMS Group; and DMS Automation: the developers of automation solutions (RPA + AI).
The project
DMS, Telekom, and q.beyond have a long-standing relationship of trust, which is why q.beyond was chosen as the partner for future collaboration. Following the pandemic, DMS also experienced increased decentralization due to working from home, resulting in different IT security requirements for the group. DMS's strategy is evolving towards a decentralized user base, smaller locations, and more users working from home.
q.beyond's experts presented their current security portfolio to DMS in dedicated security workshops and demonstrated various options for further enhancing the customer's IT security. DMS subsequently commissioned Telekom and q.beyond in February 2023, and the integration project commenced immediately (approximately two weeks). The team achieved initial successes through immediate findings.
The collaboration with Telekom and q.beyond expands existing security services with additional functionalities. As an experienced and trusted partner, q.beyond now provides the licenses and managed service. At the same time, their experts support the integration process. The project has been in productive operation since March 2023.
Customer requirements
- Security should be centrally managed and must fit the customer's new strategy (decentralization, small locations, home office).
- Security should be integrated into the customer's existing infrastructure at q.beyond and fit the customer's Meraki infrastructure.
- DMS wants a managed service because it does not have access to large IT personnel resources.
Project goals
- Expansion of the existing infrastructure with additional security measures that fit the customer's decentralization strategy.
- Integration of the solution into existing structures and operation as a managed service.
- Flexibility in adjusting booked services and capacities through q.beyond's scalable booking model.
Customer benefits
The customer benefits from advantages in DNS security and dynamic firewall functionality by choosing Cisco Umbrella as their security program. It was therefore identified as the most suitable product for their strategy. Furthermore, Cisco Umbrella as a managed service frees up the customer's own IT personnel resources. Implementation was simple and straightforward because no integration with the client operating system was required.
Convincing results
Visibility of vulnerabilities and security incidents within the customer network was significantly increased, resulting in enhanced IT security for the customer. Managed services enabled the IT security to be aligned with DMS's new strategy. This service is a crucial component of the security concept, implemented with simple yet effective means.
