Project requirements
- Implementation of a highly secure, up-to-date rule set with remote access security standards
- Compliance with current firewall requirements through user- and app-based policies
- Rapid response to security gaps and vulnerabilities
- Regular reporting of events on the firewall via security review
Project goals
- Modernisation of the remote access solution for home office requirements and integration into the security concept
- Rapid implementation of a centralized, up-to-date security concept with minimal downtime
- Redefinition of the rule set as well as active threat prevention and application detection
The challenge:
“The biggest challenge in the migration project was simultaneously improving security without excessively restricting users within a very short timeframe. On the one hand, we had to restrict existing internet access to increase security. On the other hand, we didn't want to alienate users by imposing too many restrictions. To resolve this tension, we involved users early in the process and explained the necessity of the security measures. We also tried to keep the restrictions to a minimum and offer users understandable alternatives.”

The project
To enhance his IT security, Max Schlatterer opted for our “Managed Next Generation Firewall” service. This consists of the firewall product and the associated managed service, including the Security Operations Center from q.beyond.
The goal: a significant increase in security through next-generation features such as threat prevention and application identification. Application identification allows, for example, the differentiation between Outlook and MS Teams after its implementation. As a long-standing customer of Telekom and q.beyond, with close contact to q.beyond's Service Delivery Management, the decision to implement the project jointly was a natural one. Even before this project, the customer operated a large portion of their IT infrastructure in our data centers. Following joint planning with the customer, the individual migration steps were defined and executed, enabling the project to be completed in just five months.
Impressive results.
- Increased security through managed services and a firewall as a central node at the internet breakouts in the q.beyond data center
- Comprehensive redesign and consolidation of the firewall and proxy rule set
- All employees of Max Schlatterer are protected by the new firewall, both on-site and when working remotely
- Complete migration and productive deployment of the NextGen Firewall within a project duration of only five months
From idea to implementation: Our project highlights
"With Deutsche Telekom and q.beyond as experienced and well-established IT partners, we have fully exploited the Optimisation potential of our systems and ideally positioned our IT for the challenges of tomorrow - and all this with an excellent price-performance ratio."
