"With my 25 years of professional experience in SAP, I am living proof that women can definitely leave their mark in IT."
Hey! I'm Beate and I love my job as an SAP architect!
Born in Magdeburg and living in Hamburg since 1989, I have been working at q.beyond AG for over 20 years.
Originally, I wanted to become a math and chemistry teacher, but first opted for a career in women's tailoring and subsequently completed my master's examination in tailoring. However, my fascination with numbers and analytical thinking never left me.
In the 1990s, I therefore began studying for a degree in Industrial Engineering in Hamburg – and discovered my passion for SAP there. As one of the few women in what was then a heavily male-dominated world, this situation further motivated me to pursue my path. Immediately after graduating, I was given the opportunity to enter the SAP world – and I have remained loyal to it with great enthusiasm ever since.
Trust is the foundation for success
After working as a management consultant, SAP administrator, and SAP technology consultant, I found an environment at q.beyond AG where I can continuously develop my skills.
I am particularly fascinated by SAP Basis because its environment is constantly and rapidly evolving – there's never a dull moment, and exciting new challenges regularly arise. From the very beginning, I was given responsible tasks in direct client interaction. This trust from my employer enabled me to obtain project management certification, quickly advance to project manager, and ultimately take on the role of SAP architect.
Today, I support colleagues with client tenders and proposal presentations and advise potential new clients on optimal SAP infrastructures.
Women in IT – have the courage!
I see many advantages for women in the IT industry: We can work creatively, design customized IT solutions, and drive individual new developments. Career opportunities are diverse – from software development and project management to consulting. I particularly appreciate the good salary, the dynamic and vibrant work environment, and the varied challenges. In SAP Basis, I work in a team and meet people from a wide range of companies and cultures, which enriches my daily work. Furthermore, IT offers a great deal of flexibility, for example, through remote work or part-time models. This makes it easy to balance family and career – whether it's dropping the children off at daycare between meetings or working in the evenings when they're asleep. Work-life balance can be optimally achieved in IT.
"Today I know my abilities and would answer with a smile on my face, 'Of course I can do that – I'm the best!'"
